Just over 10 years ago, The Yeast Bay was launched in The Bay Area with the goal of getting unique cultures in the hands of homebrewers and craft brewers around the world. Almost 5 years after starting the business we moved our R&D lab space up to the brewing mecca of Portland, Oregon. In both The Bay Area and Portland, we were beyond fortunate to find ourselves in regions with rapidly expanding brewing scenes, full of innovative brewers that offered us a lot of support.

Just as it was hard saying goodbye to all our Bay Area partners when we moved to Portland, it’s equally hard saying goodbye to all the world class brewers we've worked so closely with in Portland as we embark on a new leg of our yeasty journey. While change can be hard it also breeds exciting new opportunities, and it’s with that forward looking excitement that I’m very happy to announce The Yeast Bay is moving to the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin!

In some ways, this is a homecoming of sorts. It’s where my love of craft beer, homebrewing, and microbiology took root at UW-Stevens Point and UW-Madison, the combination of which planted the early seed for The Yeast Bay. The Midwest is also an area we’ve had longtime ties with many talented brewers (some of which I've know since childhood), and we’re excited to expand on those relationships as we settle into our new hometown. As we round out 2023 and head into a new year, we’ll be lining up some great collabs with our brewing partners in the Milwaukee area and across the Midwest. Keep your eyes peeled for those announcements and beer release dates.

With respect to how this move impacts availability of Yeast Bay cultures, our recently improved partnership with White Labs ensures there will be no disruption to production of any of our 47 cultures. Whether you're a homebrewer looking to plan a casual brew day or a commercial brewer working on tight production schedule, you can continue to source our entire lineup of cultures through the YeastMan order portal as we make our move.

We’re looking forward to continuing to help brewers around the world source unique microbes to craft beers with unmistakable character and identity!

Cheers,
